World no Tobacco Day/ World Anti Tobacco Day is celebrated
around the world on 31st May each year. It was established in 1987
by member states of the World Health Organization to bring worldwide attention
to the prevention of the tobacco epidemic and its deaths and illnesses.
World
Health Assembly passed a resolution calling April 7, 1988 "World No
Smoking Day". a resolution was passed In 1988, on May 31 of each year
calling for the celebration of World Tobacco Day. It aims to reduce deaths from
tobacco-related health problems.
Tobacco
causes 8 million deaths each year. Evidence released this year shows that
smokers are more likely to develop serious illness with COVID-19 than
non-smokers.
